“Use your degree. That’s what everyone told me to do when I graduated from College. They said “You have a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from a prestigious liberal arts college. You speak Spanish and Chinese. You received the IB diploma, and graduated top of your class at one of the finest high schools in Atlanta. Your whole life has been devoted to writing, reading, science, math and language. You’re finally at a point in your life that you can take advantage of all you’ve accomplished. WHY would you thrown away everything you’ve worked for and start your own company? Well, I use my degree everyday. And if I hadn’t had the liberal arts foundation for my education, the support and networks that Sewanee provides, and the confidence in my own abilities, I would not be as successful as I am today. I want all Sewanee grads to know that their education is much more than a mere paper confirmation-and to encourage them to tap into their skills and talents that only someplace as special as Sewanee can sufficiently cultivate.”
